AFA Sports sponsors Defenders Basketball Club for 2019 Africa Basketball League

Sports Active Wear brand, AFA Sports, enhanced its commitment to the development of African Sports by announcing its partnership with the Nigerian Civil Défense Corp Defenders Basketball Club in the on-going Africa Basketball League on Wednesday. 

The Announcement was made at AFA Sport’s flagship store in Victoria Island, Lagos where the team players, coaching staff and administrators were present.  

Speaking on the partnership, Bankole Abiodun, the Business Development Manager at AFA Sports stated that this partnership was birthed out of a need for quality Basketball Jerseys, merchandise and accessories to be represented on the bodies of African athletes.  

“Over the years we have had African athletes turn up to competitions and gyms with poor or overused products. AFA Sports believes that athletes should have apparels that represents their physiology, environment and cultural context. Therefore, our partnership was a no-brainer to support a Nigerian team in a continental league”  

The partnership will be first of the kind when a Basketball Team in the Africa Basketball League will be sponsored by a Nigerian Sports Active Wear brand.   

Adetayo Adesola, Public Relations Manager at AFA Sports stated “This is the beginning of more things to come for AFA and African sports. We are open to more collaborations and sponsorships for sports teams and athletes across the continent”.  

Team Manager of Defenders Basketball, Victor Okoro corroborated by stating that the Defenders Basketball Club were delighted to have partnered with an indigenous African brand that makes quality products to suit the athletes need. He stressed that this was the beginning of a long-lasting partnership the Sports Active Wear brand and Defenders Basketball.

In his statement, the Media Officer of Defenders Basketball, Ifeoluwa Adewunmi stated “AFA Sports as put their brand at the forefront of African sports and steps like this indicate a growing interest in the Defenders and the game of basketball. We hope this sets a marker for other brands who wish to invest in the Sports Industry. 

AFA Sports is also a proud sponsor of Elan Sportif BBC – a basketball team from Benin Republic, also competing at the Africa Basketball League 2019 which further positions the brand as an “Africa for Africa” brand, inspired by Africans.

The Defenders will kick off their Africa Basketball League tournament on Saturday when they square off against BC Terreur in Cotonou.
