Team Manager of the Civil Defence Nigeria Basketball, Mr. Victor Okoro led the team to their first ever Continental Games.
"We thank the Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana who despite lean resources committed all he had to make sure we represented the corps and Nigeria" Okoro said. "We also send forth appreciation to the Leader of delegation DC Awual Ibrahim, who also showed strong support to our progress" Last year, team Defenders debuted the FIBA Africa Zone 3 tournament in Lagos, but stopped abruptly due to unforeseen unfavourable circumstances. Also, since inception, they would finally debut themselves at the debut FIBA Afroleague come January, 2019. While we await the group fixtures, the FIBA Afroleague is expected to last for four months. "Right now the team is just going to take time off and relax. We the technical officials will wait to hear from FIBA to know who our opponents would be and the next venue of the 'sweet 16' tournament." he lastly added. Rivers Hoopers of Nigeria and Elan Sportiff of Benin Republic also qualified for the FIBA Afroleague. Mr. Okoro was one of the elite players during his time, now manning other positions in Nigeria Basketball, as the Chairman of Abia State Basketball Association and Special Assistant to President of Nigeria Basketball Federation, Dr. Engineer Musa Kida.
