Team Rivers Hoopers of Nigeria did not qualify for the Elite 8 of the FIBA Africa Basketball league, following their loss to JS Kairouan of Tunisia, 91-70. Both teams were adjacent to each other, but as time went on the difference was clear of the more dominant side. Although securing more rebounds for possession and scoring opportunity, the King's Men were behind in being opportunists. #23 Abdul Yahaya managed to score 22 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist; while #14 Solomon Ajegbeyi had 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assist and 2 steals; and #11 Emmanuel Balogun 10 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. After the previous win, this match was a decider to their qualifying for the next round (Elite 8), but fell short. In conclusion, the Nigerian team, put up a show despite setback, prior to their participation. We wish them better in subsequent competitions. Meanwhile, another Nigerian team, Defenders Basketball Club would be taking their shot at the tournament in Cotonou, Benin, this coming week.
