Team FCT are champions of the basketball event at the National Sports Festival. They went on a head-to-head rematch with team Gombe State and proof themselves yet again to be the basketball male champions of the 19th edition of the National Sports Festival.
The game ended 50-54, in favour of FCT.
Despite being criticized for bringing in high calibre of players into the tournament, most forgot that six years ago - 2012 - after the host of the 18th edition, the embargo on league players was removed.
"Why are some people angry because a veteran like me is still enjoying the open and all inclusive national sports festival? I thought there was a youth festival for Talent discovery?" Fomer D'Tigers player, Stanley Gumult said in an interview.
In table-tennis, a 50 year old athlete, Taofik Bolatito Maya of Oyo state, also attended. He probably was the oldest at the 19th Edition of the National Sport Festival.
The love of the game still grows and the crowd that turned up were direct proof. The love, energy, togetherness, connection and harmony amongst people of different class was a feeling they would not forget in a hurry.
Greater things ahead for Nigerian sports. Thanks to the organizers for making the 19th edition a reality as we hope for improvement in the next edition.
