The Handball Federation of Nigeria have express shock over the death of the immediate past president of the Federation, Alhaji Yusuf Dauda. The late Dauda died on Wednesday night after a brief illness. HFN President Mr. Sam Ocheho who succeeded the late Yusuf Dauda as the President of the federation, described his death as a big loss to the handball family. "This is a rude shock to the handballing family. May God grant his family the grace to bear this irreparable loss". Ocheho concluded. The Secretary General of HFN, Alhaji Maigidansanma Mohammed on his part expressed shock about the death of the late Yusuf Dauda and believes the handball family will miss his insightful and adorable leadership quality. " I am shocked and I feel for his family. May Allah forgive his soul and grant him Aljanna, Aamin!" He concluded The late Alhaji Yusuf Dauda held several position in his aim to improve the development of sports in Nigeria aside being a the immediate past president of HFN. He was an IHF graded Referee and former Secretary General of the Referees Association. He was also a former member of the Confederation of Africa Handball (CAHB) Commission and a former member of the Nigeria Olympic Committee. He also held positions in Nigeria football club team, Niger Tornadoes where he was a P.R.O and Chairman at different times and he was also a former president of the National Association of Physical and Health education (NAPHER)

The Handball Federation of Nigeria have postpone the first phase of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League. A statement released by HFN Secretariat reads thus; "In view of the clash in date of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League and the IHF Challenge trophy at the Intercontinental level to be held in Kosovo from April 10th to 14th, 2019 in which our Cadet and Junior men National teams would be involved, the HFN have decided to reschedule the commencement of the first phase of Prudent Energy Handball Premier League as follows: New dates April 24th - arrival April 25th to 3rd May ( competition proper) May 4th departure The Handball Federation of Nigeria has released the final squad lists of the under 18 female and 20 national teams for the IHF Challenge Trophy after two weeks of intensive training. About 45 female players comprising of the Junior and Cadets category had reported to camp in Abuja with coaches Uzor John and Ndudi Stella taking charge of the Junior U-20 female team while Coaches Abdulkadir Yusuf and Esther O. Lambert coached the Cadets female. According to the Technical director of HFN Mr. Ferdinand Emeanaa, the teams are expected to jet out of Abuja on Thursday for the International Handball Federation sanctioned challenge in Niamey, Niger Republic. The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) secretariat have released the activities and program of the federation for the first quarter of the year. In a statement signed by HFN secretary general Alhaji Maigidansanma Mohammed, the national cadet and junior teams are to commence preparation soon towards the IHF Challenge Trophy holding in Niamey, Niger Republic from 25th Feb.-3rd March, 2019. About 45 female players comprising of the Junior and Cadets category are expected to report to camp from Feb 9 Coaches Uzor John and Ndudi Stella are to take charge of the Junior U-20 female team while Coaches Abdulkadir Yusuf and Esther O. Lambert would be in charge of the Cadets female team The HFN will also organise the National Under 18/21 Male/Female Handball Championship in Lagos from 8th-17th March, 2019. The championship will bring participants from the 36 states of the Federation including Handball Academies, Local Govt teams and youth clubs. The HFN have plans to hold a seminar for coaches and referees in March 6th to 9th 2019 with the objective of refreshing and updating the technical officials on the current international best practices in the Handball game. Finally, the first phase of the 2019 Prudent Energy Premier League will hold in Abuja from the 2nd -14th April, 2019 with 10 female and 12 male teams participating respectively.
