Eventually, the one week Handball championship was brought to an end yesterday as the under 18/21 champions recorded unprecedented and fabulous outing in Rowe park, Yaba, Lagos.
The tournament that has featured teams from Lagos state, Nassarawa, Kogi, Fct-Abuja, Kwara, Bayelsa, Ogun among others; witnessed a huge turnout of spectators from all works of life.
Nigeria Handball Federation boss, while delivering his speech at the closing ceremony, said "I'm glad we've experienced a wonderful event and i am encouraging other states to buckle-up".
He also stated, Handball has come to stay. Therefore, i' use this medium to thank all our stakeholders, Press, Referee's, Coaches and Handball in diaspora for supporting us"
Adding, "We are looking forward to a successful outing in IHF and other championship ahead of us" Ocheho added.
Aside from the Musical session daily, balls donated to participating states, certificates awarded, medals distributed and trophies; there were several exhibition games that allow the President @Sam Ochecho and other veterans displayed their acquired skills and talents.
Noteably, adding icing to the cake was the game between Lagos state female veterans that ended 8-12 against Kwara despite 5-5 draw at half-time.
Earlier, Future Pro narrowly defeated Mindscope 25-24 in the male under 18 match, although their U21 male loss terribly to Lagos 43-28 encounter.
In the female category, it was a show of class and experience when Abuja Queens came out fully to overpowered Future Pro of Ogun State 44-10 in the female Under-21 match.
Aside from taking the lead at half-time 20-19, Kogi override Lagos (43-34) in their home soil during the male under 21 game.
Speaking our correspondent, Kogi Coach Peter Philips reteirated, "My player's followed my intructions to slow the game paze of the game, distribute the ball and pick the goals; however our target is to reach international level"
On the losing side, Coach Bukola Duru told www.titansportsnig.com "They didn't played according to my counsel as they keep rushing their opponent which lead to many defensive errors"
She expressed optimism, "Next time we shall emerge victorious, because they're very young and playing together is what we need now" Bukola maintained.
Meanwhile, Fct-Abuja male and female Coach Ayo Joshua disclosed, "Indeed, the HFN has really boasted our performances but we're hoping to adequately represent the country at IHF championship, adding more player's and play more friendly games" he summarized.
Dignitries that graced the occasion are: Alh. Bode Durotoye (Lagos State Ministry of Youths & Sports), Mrs. Ocheho, Mr. Agbola Shittu (Coach Nigeria Airforce), Prince Olusegun Kolawole (Lagos State Director of Sports Development), Mr. Ahmed Abubakar (HFN board member & Kaduna Sports Chairman), Mr. Joseph Udale (Athlete Representative) and Mr. Emmanuel Olubiyo (Kwara State Handball Chairman).
Meanwhile, in the male under 21, team Lagos clinched first, Kwara 2nd position as Abuja Rising stars emerged 3rd place.
In addition, Mindscope Handball Academy came first in the under 21 female category, followed by Lagos state while Kogi finished third position.
Interestingly, young promising star Ogundokun Saqik (Future Pro) won the under 21 male MVP while (Kwara) Biliqees Taye claimed that of the female.
More also, team (Lagos) Chukwuka Michael was awarded the MVP in the under 18 male category as the female MVP goes to Adewole Faidat of (Mindscope Academy).
